
Madhukar Upadhya is a senior expert in watershed management, with focus on mountain hydrology. His career centers on enhancing climate resilience, water resource management, and sustainable agriculture particularly in Nepal's mid-hill regions. He regularly writes opinion pieces for publication like the Kathmandu Post, addressing critical topics such as the balance between societal growth and natural resource conservation, as well as the challenges of managing the climate crisis. Upadhya authored Ponds and Landslides: Water Culture, Food Systems, and the Political Economy of Soil Conservation in Mid-Hills, Nepal, exploring the complex interplay of traditional water management, soil conservation, and socioeconomic dynamics. He taught watershed science at Pokhara University & 39 School of Environmental Science and Management in Kathmandu and currently works as a freelance consultant specializing in climate finance and gender inclusion in climate initiatives.
