
SUBAS PANI is an author, translator, composer and creative director with a PhD on Jayadeva’s Geetagovinda. A civil servant by profession, he was Chief Secretary to the Government of Odisha and Secretary to the Government of India. With a lifelong deep and abiding interest in the heritage of India and especially of Odisha, his research interests cover the cultural traditions of Odisha, Jagannatha and Geetagovinda. He has been a commentator for the live telecast of Ratha Yatra for the national and international channels of Doordarshan, the national television broadcaster of India, for more than two decades. His publications include Orissa: Her Monuments and Their Tales, Palm Leaf Paintings of Orissa: A Selection from the Orissa State Museum, Jagannatha Consciousness (ed.), Balasore, its Historical & Cultural Heritage (ed.) and Blue Hill: Hymns to Jagannatha (English verse translations from Sanskrit and Odia). He has also translated into Odia a biography of legendary Odissi guru Padma Bhusan Kelucharan Mahapatra from its English original.His travel articles have appeared in Swagatand Namaskar. He has authored two seminal works in Odia-Sampoorna Geetagovinda and Daru Brahma: Sri Jagannatha BhajanaSudhasindhuand composed music for two major compilations of the same name and for another titled Jagannathah Swami. He has conceived and curated major cultural festivals and collaborated in new choreography of dance renditions of all the songs of Geetagovinda.
