Born in 1965, Dr. K. Sreenivasarao is the Secretary of Sahitya Akademi, India’s premier Institution of Letters since February 2013. He has been serving Sahitya Akademi for more than two and a half decades. Dr. Rao has Masters and Ph.D. degrees in English literature and he has served Sahitya Akademi in different capacities such as Deputy Secretary, Regional Secretary and Officer on Special Duty.
In his long and illustrious career, Dr. Rao has been closely associated with various Premier literary and cultural organizations of India and has handled many prestigious projects such as Encyclopedia of Indian Poetics, Encyclopedia of Indian Literature, National Bibliography of Indian Literature, Archives of Indian Literature, Indian Literature Abroad and various projects related to the development of literature in North East India.
Dr. Rao has represented Sahitya Akademi at many International platforms including the General Assembly of Union Academique Internationale at Brussels and has lead literary exchange delegations to many countries across the world and also the literary delegations to Festival of India Abroad in many countries.
He has translated a Children’s dictionary from English to Telugu. He regularly gives talks / interviews in All India Radio, Doordarshan, Delhi and also delivered the Foundation Day Lecture of National Book Trust, India. He is the recipient of Delhi Telugu Akademi Award for 2011, Bharitya Vadamaya Peeth Award for the Excellence in Administration, Member of the Planning-cum-Monitoring Board of the Centre for Excellence for Studies in Classical Telugu and has been a jury member in many important literary awards and programmes.
Dr. K. Sreenivasarao is a sitting member of leading organizations of India such as General Assembly of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Rajaram Mohan Roy Library Foundation, Programme Committee member of Zonal Cultural Centres, Preview Committee of Doordarshan and is on the Council of Sangeet Natak Akademi.
