
Prof. Suresh Manandhar is a leading Nepali Artificial Intelligence (AI) scientist with more than 35 years of expertise in machine learning, natural language processing, and multimodal understanding. He earned his Ph.D. in AI from the University of Edinburgh, UK, in 1994, and co-founded Lexicle (UK), which created the world’s first virtual character conversational dialogue system, featured on BBC Click in 2002.
He led the AI Research Group at the University of York until 2019, supervising over 20 Ph.D. students and publishing more than 120 research papers. His distinguished career includes serving as a NATO Visiting Fellow and contributing to the UK House of Lords Select Committee on Science and Technology in 2004.
Currently, Prof. Manandhar is the CEO, Co-founder, and Chief Scientist of Wiseyak, an AI products and services company, and an Honorary Professor in AI at Madan Bhandari University of Science and Technology. Until recently, he also headed AI Research at Fusemachines Inc. His pioneering work continues to influence AI research and application in Nepal and around the world.
