Prof. B P Acharya, IAS, (Retd) was the Special Chief Secretary to Government of Telangana & Director General, Dr. Marri Channa Reddy Human Resource Development Institute of Telangana.
In his long stellar career in bureaucracy, he held a number of important positions and conceived and launched many new innovative initiatives. As the Secretary to Govt, Industries & Commerce Dept., he was instrumental in developing Genome Valley, and Biotech Sector in combined A.P, the first world class Science Cluster in the country. The fruits of his efforts on industrial development of the State are highly visible now. As Managing Director, APIIC, he was instrumental in facilitating over 20 world class clusters in the combined State of AP, such as Financial District, Mindspace IT Cluster, Sri City SEZ, APSEZ, Vizag, Brandix, Pharma City etc., thereby generating employment to over 40lakh persons directly or indirectly. As Principal Secretary for Tourism in the newly formed State of Telangana, he was instrumental in creating a brand image for Telangana Tourism and formation of Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation. As the Special Chief Secretary, Planning he was responsible for strengthening of decentralized planning in the State, Planning Department, and established the District Knowledge and Innovation Centers in each district which provide innovative and workable solutions to the district administration in implementation of critical programs. He was heading MCR HRDIT as Director General, since March 2017, and has implemented several innovative training programmes, including e-Learning for field staff, covering over 1 lakh employees in the State, in three years.
After superannuation in October, 2020, he helped ICMR for their National Animal Resource Facility for Biomedical Research (NARFBR) project in Genome Valley near Hyderabad. He was appointed as Advisor for Industrial cluster development in Punjab and included in the working group for Civil Services reforms by Government on India under Mission Karmayogi. He was appointed as Chairperson of the Advisory committee of IRDAI on Insurance Ombudsmen and Chief Advisor, Federation of Telangana chambers of Commerce and Industries (FTCCI). He is designated as Professor of Practice by Centurion University of Technology and Management (CUTM). He is nominated as a member of the Life Sciences Advisory committee of Govt of Telangana and Advisor of SCB (Ministry of Defence). He is also a visiting faculty at the Kautilya School of Public Policy and Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad.
